What We Believe

Purposeful Womanhood’s Statement of Faith

We believe…

Scripture

The Bible alone is God-breathed and inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:21), inerrant in the original manuscript (Prov. 30:5; John 17:17), and is the eternal and unfailing Word of God (Mat. 5:18; John 10:35; Rev. 22:18-19; Ps. 119:160). All we do and believe is ruled by and stands upon the authority of Scripture.

God

God is the one true and Triune God—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. As Triune God, they share an identical and eternal nature with equal power and glory, yet as separate persons they operate in differing, but no less divine, roles (Deut. 6:4; Ps. 90:2; Mat. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Cor. 8:6).

  • God the Father is eternal, unchanging and unchangeable, all-powerful, all-knowing, and omnipresent. He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign Ruler over all the universe. Nothing is outside of His power or protection. He is perfect in all his ways—a holy, righteous, and just God who demonstrated his perfect love, grace, and mercy by sending His Son to die for the sins of those who will believe in and trust in Him, and thereby becoming beloved children of God and co-heirs with Christ (Ps. 65:2; 139:1-24; 1 Chr. 29:11; John 1:12; 3:16; Eph. 1:3- 9; Rom. 11:36; Rom. 8:17).
  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is 100% God, eternal and divine in nature with the Father and Holy Spirit. He is also 100% man, having taken on a human nature when he took on flesh and was born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life and at the appointed time, laid his life down by suffering on the cross and being made sin so that mankind might be made righteous. Having paid the full debt for sin, Jesus died, was buried, and rose again on the third day. He ascended to the Father and will come again to earth as the righteous Judge and eternal King (John 1:1-3, 18; 5:22-23; 20:28; Rom. 9:5; Heb. 1:3, 6, 8; 9:24; Phil. 2:6-11; Col. 1:15-20; 2 Cor. 5:21; Mat. 25:31; Rev. 19:11- 20:6; 1 John 2:2).
  • The Holy Spirit is fully God as the divine Spirit of God the Father and Jesus Christ, His Son. He is a Person—not an impersonal force—and as such has a personality and can experience emotions. He was active with the Father and Son in creation and inspired the writers of Scripture. He draws people to salvation through Christ and dwells in the heart of every believer to empower them to obey God’s Word (Mat. 28:19; John 16:7-14; Tit. 3:5; Eph. 1:13; 5:18; Rom. 8:9-16, 26; Phil. 2:13).

Creation

God created the heavens and the earth as recorded in Genesis. Creation did not come into being through an evolutionary process but by the power of God in six literal days (Gen. 1-2; John 1:3-10; Col. 1:16; Heb. 11:3).

Mankind

God created man in his image, innocent and free of sin. However, Adam disobeyed God and brought sin and death into the world. Their sin nature has passed down to every person born of man in every generation, making a people who are sinners by nature and by choice. Their rebellion destroyed mankind’s relationship with God and justly condemned all to eternal punishment in hell without defense or excuse (Gen. 1-3; Rom. 3:10-12, 23; 5:12; 8:7-8; Eph. 2:1-3; John 6:44; 1 John 4:19; Is. 64:6; Jer. 17:9).

Salvation

The salvation of sinners is by grace alone through faith alone in the shed blood of Jesus Christ alone. All who repent and believe in Him are regenerated by the Holy Spirit, saved from the penalty of their sin, and become redeemed children of God (Eph. 2:8-9; John 1:29; 1 John 2:2; Is. 53:4-12).

  • Regeneration involves God’s Spirit illuminating a person’s mind in response to their hearing the gospel, which results in the changing of a person’s will and the receiving of a new nature by God’s grace through their faith in Christ. The Holy Spirit causes this spiritual change in which the person is freed from the guilt of his sinful nature, is credited by God with Christ’s righteousness, and is born again into God’s family (John 3:3-7, 16; 1:12; 2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 3:22-28; 1 Pet. 1:23; Tit. 3:5; Acts 2:38; 17:30).
  • Justification is the act of God whereby He credits the righteousness of Christ to a sinner and declares him to be righteous in His sight. This is not based on any work by the sinner, but solely on the substitutionary work of Christ on the cross (Rom. 3:22-28; 4:1-8; 5:1-2; Gal. 2:16).
  • Sanctification is the life-long process by which God gradually transforms the believer into the image of God’s Son. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the believer actively participates in this process by responding in obedience to God’s Word and the Holy Spirit. God’s Word promises the process of sanctification will be completed when the believer joins Christ in heaven and they are made perfect in holiness (John 17:17; 2 Cor. 3:18; Eph. 5:26; Phil. 1:6; Phil. 2:12-13; 1 John 3:2; Acts 20:32).
  • Preservation is the eternal security every true believer receives at the moment of salvation by the sealing of the Holy Spirit. No true believer can lose their salvation. They are kept by God’s grace and power, not by their works, but their belief will be evidenced by their good works because faith without works is dead. Scripture gives a solemn warning to those who merely make a profession of salvation yet their lives give no evidence of a change in their nature because of their willful, continual practice of sin (John 6:37, 39; 10:27-30; Rom. 8:38-39; 1 Pet. 1:5; 2 Pet. 1:10; 1 John 3:7-10; James 2:14-26).

Biblical Womanhood

God created men and women spiritually equal in position before Him and with distinct and separate spiritual functions in the home and in the church. (Gen. 1:26–28; 2:18; Gal. 3:26–28; Eph. 5:22–33)

  • Because we are sinners who have been redeemed by the grace of God, and His sanctifying grace is still transforming us, it is impossible to live a life of purposeful, biblical womanhood without the power of the Holy Spirit. (John 15:1–5; 1 Cor. 15:10; Eph. 2:8–10; Phil. 2:12–13)

  • As purposeful, biblical women seeking to live out the mandate of Titus 2:3-5, we desire to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. We are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God may not be reviled. (Titus 2:3-5)

  • As purposeful, biblical women, when we respond in humility to male leadership in our homes and churches, we demonstrate the same humble submission Christ had to the Father. (Eph. 5:22–33; 1 Cor. 11:3)

  • As purposeful, biblical women, whether married or single, we are to live out a femininity that distinctly models modesty, a gentle and quiet spirit, and submission to any proper God-given authority in our home, church, business, and in the world. (1 Pet. 2;13-14; 1 Pet. 3:3-5)
