That's Peachy!
By Jessica Edwards
Several years ago, I mindlessly tossed a peach pit off of my back deck and into the hedge. That particular peach pit was gone forever, or so I thought. It has since sprouted, taken root, grown into a tree, bloomed, and is now producing fruit. We would call it a "volunteer" peach tree. It did exactly what the Creator created it to do.
Often, I have heard women frustrated with the notion that they don't know what their purpose is. They don't know what "assignment" God has given them to do, and they spin their wheels in frustration, doubt, and disappointment trying to figure out what BIG thing the Lord has for them.
Jesus says in John 15:4-5 "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
Jesus says, "Abide in Me", snuggle up to Him, put down some deep roots in Him, and through abiding in Him, we will bear MUCH fruit. That's the BIG thing He wants for us... simply to abide. We accomplish a lot of nothing, and we work really hard while we are doing it. True fruit, true accomplishment, comes when we surrender to Him, abide in Him, and trust Him to produce the fruit in and through us.
How about you? Are you doing exactly what your Creator created you to do, like my volunteer peach tree? Are you abiding in Him and trusting Him to produce the fruit you are longing to see? Or are you accomplishing a lot of nothing?
