King of Glory
By Carrie Moyer
Growing up, I was taught to view Christmas as a special opportunity to celebrate and reflect on Christ's birth and His reason for coming to earth. Now that I'm grown, during the Christmas season, I continue to focus my Bible reading and meditation specifically on the prophecies and events pertaining to our Savior's birth.
I walked through many valleys this past year, or perhaps it was one great dark valley. Close friends buried children. I grieved the losses of three of my own unborn babies. We said goodbye to a grandmother, an uncle, a dear friend. We comforted and prayed for others as they wept over loved ones.
More than ever this past year, I am realizing how desperately I need Christ, how crucial was His coming to earth as the God-man, how pertinent our hope that one day He will come again.
As I share in His suffering, I am realizing what a sacrifice He made in coming to earth. What love He demonstrated in all that He did for us!
Christ, Creator of all,
Sovereign King of Glory,
with right and power
to do whatever He pleases,
King of Kings,
whom angels worshipped,
Laid aside rule and authority,
Came to earth as a baby,
weak and helpless,
dependent on ones
who need help themselves,
the ones whom He had made.
Lord of Lords
became servant to servants.
King of Glory abandoned light
to suffer in darkness.
Source of Life surrendered to death.
The only Son of man begotten by God,
Pure of heart,
Perfect in spirit,
given to be
my impurity,
given to bear
my penalty,
given to free
me from slavery,
given to rise
and dwell in me
That I may know Him
and the power of His resurrection,
understanding the worthlessness
of my own goodness,
and realizing the weakness
of my own strength.
That I may turn
from myself
to Him,
from relying on my faltering ability
to trusting His limitless power,
from slaving for pleasure
to resting in the treasure of
relationship of sinner to Savior.
Who am I that
Christ, Creator of all,
Sovereign King of Glory,
with right and power
to do whatever He pleases,
King of kings,
worthy of worship,
Would come to earth
to die
and deliver
and dwell in me?

*I've
included several of the specific verses that guided my thoughts as I
meditated on the gospel. I encourage you to look these up in your own
Bible and read the contexts surrounding them. Ask the Lord to
increase your knowledge of Him and deepen your understanding of His
sacrificial love and redemptive work through Christ.
