Of MERCY and LOVE
by Carrie Moyer
Many Suffered, yet Only One was Chosen
"There is in Jerusalem... a pool, [beside which] lay a MULTITUDE
of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. ONE man was there who had been
an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there... he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”... "Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” And
at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked... [He] told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him." (John 5:2-15
ESV, edited for brevity)
. . . Only One? . . .
Out of MANY,
Christ chose ONE.
I'm tempted to ask, "WHY?"
But then I realize . . .
He didn't have to choose ANY!
NONE are WORTHY of His healing GRACE.
The Creator of all FORMED this man
with a specific PURPOSE in mind.
He PLANNED him and CHOSE him
with the FAITH to be healed
and to PROCLAIM the name of his HEALER.
God FULFILLED His purpose for him
and GLORIFIED His name through him!
He was NO DIFFERENT from the rest;
He needed HEALING no more, no less.
But God made him for Himself,
a CHILD of MERCY
to receive LOVE and GRACE!
. . . Me? . . .
Out of MANY,
Christ chose ME.
I ought to ask, "WHY?"
I realize . . .
He would be JUST not to choose ANY!
I am NOT WORTHY of His saving GRACE.
But the Creator of all FORMED me
with a specific PURPOSE in mind.
He PLANNED me and CHOSE me
with the FAITH to believe
and to PROCLAIM the excellencies of my SAVIOR.
God FULFILLS His purpose for me
and GLORIFIES His name through me!
I am NO DIFFERENT from the rest;
I need SALVATION no more, no less.
God of MERCY and LOVE,
I PRAISE You!
For out of MANY SINNERS,
You have CHOSEN me,
who am the LEAST WORTHY!
. . . Unworthy, yet Redeemed . . .
"While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
(Romans 5:8b ESV)
. . . Unworthy, yet Blessed . . .
"Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s."
(Psalm 103:2-5 ESV)
Beautiful! Something to remind myself of often. So eloquently written and heartfelt! Makes me think of ephesians 2:10
