LIGHT
By Carrie Moyer
Without light,
earth was shapeless and empty.
Without light,
darkness covered the deeps.
Without light,
nothing.
Nothing to give.
Nothing to show.
Nothing to be.
Nothing.
Just
Nothing.
Then, God's Spirit visited.
He knew the shadows,
comprehending their depths.
For darkness is as light with Him.
God sent His Word
into the darkness.
"Let there be light,"
and there was light.
And God saw that the light was good.
He is the light,
and He is good.
And God separated
the light from the darkness.
God is light,
and in Him is no darkness at all.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Without light,
the world was lost and empty.
Without light,
hearts were darkened.
Without light,
no knowledge of truth.
Men loved darkness,
rather than light.
They had
Nothing to give.
Nothing to show.
Nothing to be.
Nothing.
Just
Nothing.
Then, the true Light,
which gives light to everyone,
came into the world.
He knew the shadows,
comprehending their depths.
for the world was made through Him,
yet the world did not know Him.
God sent His Word
into the darkness
"Let there be light,"
and people who walked in darkness
received the light of life.
And God saw that the light was good,
for Jesus is the light,
and His blood cleanses from all sin.
And God separated
the light from the darkness.
He is in the light,
and those who walk in the light,
have fellowship with one another,
redeemed and forgiven.
Without light,
I am helplessless and empty.
Without light,
darkness fills me.
Without light,
I am nothing.
I sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death.
Nothing to give.
Nothing to show.
Nothing to be.
Nothing.
Just
Nothing.
Then He visited from on high.
He knew the shadows,
comprehending their depths.
For even when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth,
I was not hidden from Him.
His eyes saw my unformed substance.
God sent His Word
into my darkness.
"Let there be light,"
and there was light,
a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path,
to guide me into the way of peace.
And God saw that the light in me was good.
“You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.
It is you who light my lamp;
Yahweh my God lightens my darkness!
In Your light I see light!"
And God called me
out of the darkness
into His marvelous light
that I may proclaim His excellencies.
Once I was nothing.
Now I am God's.
Once I had not received mercy.
Now I have received mercy.
When I sit in darkness,
Yahweh will be a light to me!
